RBT Test 03: Training Essentials

This exam reviews Schedules of Reinforcement, Chaining, and Generalization.

Generalization: Do not just train and hope. You must plan for the student to use the skill with different people and in different places.
Schedules: Ratio schedules are based on the number of responses. Interval schedules are based on the amount of time that passes.
Task Analysis: This involves breaking a complex skill, like washing hands, into small, easy steps that can be taught one by one.

Q:1Which of the following is typically NOT included as an essential component in a skill acquisition plan?
A skill plan tells you how to teach. The diagnosis is important for doctors, but it does not tell the RBT how to run the lesson.
Q:2A therapist provides a "star" token on average every 5 times the learner responds correctly. What type of reinforcement schedule is this?
Variable Ratio means the reward is a surprise. It happens on average every 5 times, but not exactly every 5 times.
Q:3When planning for a client's generalization of a skill, what should an analyst NOT do?
Train and hope means you just cross your fingers and hope the student learns. We need a real plan to ensure they use the skill.
Q:4Which of the following IS typically included as an essential component in a skill acquisition plan?
A teaching plan must say exactly how and when to give rewards so the student keeps learning throughout the session.

Test 03 Study Summary

1. Stimulus Control This happens when a behavior occurs more often in the presence of a specific cue, like stopping when you see a red light.
2. Chaining Types Forward chaining starts at the first step. Backwards chaining starts at the last step. Total task teaches all steps at once.
3. Variable Schedules Variable schedules (like a slot machine) create steady, high rates of responding because the reward is unpredictable.
